Using bookmarks I’ve collected in the past year as point of departure and source for raw data, MINT features criticism, commentary, music and experimental typography.
The core of the visual system was created around an asymmetrical layout designed to accommodate flexible content without diluting the journal’s rebellious spirit. App takes typographic and structural cues from print journal to make navigating on a mobile device more intuitive.
Unlike traditional publications that are structured by ‘features’ and ‘departments’, MINT organizes content using a flexible system of ‘bookmarks’ presenting the reader a collection of carefully curated content that is organized by theme or subject matter.
Mobile app includes three main features: ‘Flip + Browse’, 'Discover + Play’, ‘Sign Manifesto/ Subscribe / Donate.’
‘Flip and Browse’ mimics the physical mechanics of flipping through the pages of print journal.
‘‘Discover and Play” features music you can see and touch. Featuring a carefully curated playlist with a built-in music player that is useful for those who would like to listen to music while walking or driving. When commanded to play the screen shifts to a typographic visualization of the song, plays music and enables a “buy album” button that links to the artists’ online store.
